Ivan Maraver is a Puerto Rican guitarrist. "Fragmentos" is Ivan's first release. Iván Maraver started on guitar while still very young. First contact with a musical instrument came through his father, an amateur guitar player who could play and figure out tunes by ear. Ivan grew up listening to his father’s record collection; South American music such as joropos, cumbias, ballenatos, tangos, samba and bossa nova were constantly listened around the house. Vivaldi, Verdi, and Beethoven were the likes of his father as well.
Ivan learned his first chords on the guitar by watching his father play. He took his first music lessons from Maestro Lucho Muñoz, brother of the well-known Panamian musician Avelino Muñoz. Ivan attended Boston’s Berklee College Of Music. After returning to Puerto Rico he started playing and recording for local professional bands. At this time Ivan really started learning about music as he was recruited by the best musicians in town. He remembers Maestro Lito Peña's Band (one of the finest Puerto Rican musicians of all times) as his first pro gig. Iván also recalls Maestro Máximo Torres(The Puerto Rican GURU of any stringed instrument) as his mentor.
Ivan has performed/recorded with the best bands in Puerto Rico, including Puerto Rico Symphonic Orchestra and has been guest artist as soloist for the Filarmónica de Puerto Rico. He has toured U.S. and Latin America. Ivan performed many times on the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazzfest; he has also performed in the world-reknown Casals Festival.
Learning and performing music came through experience on the job rather than formal studies. He recalls Maestro Mandy Vizoso, a talented Cuban-born musician, former bassist for Tito Puente's Band and superb arranger, as his best music teacher. Performing and recording with the prestigious Maestro Mandy Vizoso’s Orchestra, gave Ivan a chance to perform the hottest charts in Latin Music since the band was constantly booked to accompany the most important music events in PR. Ivan performed/recorded with all the big names in Puerto Rico; he has also performed/recorded with Michel Camilo, Dianne Schurr, David Sánchez, Tito Puente, Andy and Jerry González and Armando Manzanero among others.
Iván performs regularly around the San Juan area, you can catch him playing jazz trio settings. Iván is a fan of Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro- Cuban music. Even though Iván listens to many music styles he enjoys the musical works of fellow Puerto Rican musicians and composers such as Iván Rijos, Jorge Laboy, Pedro Guzmán, Miguel Zenón, Edwin Colón Zayas, David Sánchez, Luis Marin, Rafael Hernández and Miguelito Alcaide, among others.

Iván Maraver comenzó a tocar la guitarra desde niño. Su primer contacto con ese instrumento, y su afición por el arte de la música, le llegó a través de su padre, un aficionado a la música quien solía aprender canciones “de oído”. Iván creció escuchando la colección de discos de su padre la cual consistía primordialmente de música suramericana como joropos, cumbias, ballenatos, tangos, samba y bossa nova así como también Vivaldi, Verdi y Beethoven.
Iván aprendió los primeros acordes de guitarra observando a su padre tocar. Al cabo de un tiempo Iván tomó clases de música con el maestro Lucho Muñoz, hermano de otro gran maestro, el panameño Avelino Muñoz. Iván se radicó por un tiempo en Boston donde tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar en el Berklee College of Music. A su regreso a la isla tuvo la oportunidad de tocar en agrupaciones y orquestas profesionales. Es en este momento que Iván realmente "aprende" de música pues es reclutado para tocar/grabar con los mejores músicos puertorriqueños. La participación en una agrupación dirigida por el maestro Lito Peña marca el inicio de Iván como músico profesional. Iván menciona al Maestro Máximo Torres(El Gurú puertorriqueño de cualquier instrumento que tenga cuerdas) como su mentor.
Iván ha participado con las mejores agrupaciones de Puerto Rico incluyendo a la Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico, ha sido artista invitado como solista de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Puerto Rico. Ha tocado muchas veces en el Heineken Jazzfest y también ha participado en el mundialmente famoso Festival Casals.
El aprendizaje del arte de la música le llega de su experiencia con otros músicos más que de la educación musical formal. Iván señala al talentoso músico cubano Mandy Vizoso como su mejor maestro de música pues al ser guitarrista por años de la prestigiosa Orquesta de Mandy Vizoso tuvo la oportunidad de adquirir experiencia a través de situaciones musicales muy diferentes unas de otras. Iván ha tocado y/o grabado con los más destacados músicos/artistas de Puerto Rico además de grandes talentos como Tito Puente, Michel Camilo, Dianne Schurr, David Sánchez, Andy y Jerry González y Armando Manzanero.
Iván toca frecuentemente en Puerto Rico sobre todo en el área metropolitana con trios de jazz; es fanático de la música Afro-Puertorriqueña y Afro-Cubana. Aunque tiene infinidad de gustos en la música, Iván disfruta mucho de los trabajos musicales de sus talentosos paisanos Iván Rijos, Jorge Laboy, Pedro Guzmán, Miguel Zenón, Edwin Colón Zayas, Luís Marín, David Sánchez, Rafael Hernández , Miguelito Alcaide y muchos más.
